First, Hello Cats ! And everyone !

I happened to check out Susan's old website which her husband James
still maintains.

And maybe I'm being a bit to critical but I guess
nothing says love like posting a huge background pic of your deceased
wife from the chest up wearing a see thru top from years ago.

(Ok, I admit, it's actually a borderline hot pic of Sexy Sadie but THAT'S
NOT THE POINT !)

Your wife recently DIED OF BRAIN CANCER ! OMG ! I don't want to see a pic
of your wife's nipple !

But what really disturbs me is the quote that James Whitehouse used
up front on the homepage in big pink letters,
"I'm sixty years old and I don't know anyone who's done as much as [Susan] has." - Margaret DiMaria, Jay Sebring's sister, 2005

I hope that is taken out of context.

Why would Jay Sebring's own sister say anything like that in favor of someone who helped in what happened to her brother ? Reminds me of Susan Laberge.

And what a classy guy, James Whitehouse, for using a quote from the victims family !

http://susanatkins.org
The bus came by and I got on, that's when it all began.

the picture is pretty tame in my opinion. the quote is not taken out of context.

The website does use a lot of spin, but he is a lawyer and that is what they do. They spin information to garner reaction.

Yeah, I guess he wants a reaction when he puts this kind of stuff up on his website:
Years ago I believe I read a quote from an interview with Sharon Tate in which she said, "I don't do drugs. I drink and smoke pot. I've tried acid and coke. But I don't do drugs."

He's offering some type of bogus reward for someone who can come up with the source of this quote.

What is he trying to imply with this quote?

Are people out there still blaming the victims for their crimes?

Didn't Krenwinkel say something along the lines that Abigail Folger could have been more in life than what she was--a drug take

"In 1988, while stating her deep remorse for the murders, Krenwinkel nonetheless told her prison psychiatrist that Abigail Folger, the person she murdered on the night of the Tate murders, 'could have been something more then she was, a drug abuser.'" (Helter Skelter, 1994 ed., p 690).

It's actually the only self-serving quotation I've heard attributed to her as a mature woman. Otherwise she is vehemently anti-Charlie and has said that if serving life in prison can influence young people to avoid drugs and not admire Manson she feels her life has served a purpose. Obviously AF was much more than a drug abuser - despite her wealth she worked everyday as a volunteer social worker in Los Angeles County.

Thanks, maybe we're not getting the whole quote, maybe it was she 'could have been something more than she was, a drug abuser....that is if I hadn't chased her down and stabbed her 28 times with a buck knife...that kind of put a damper on her potential plans..' :fidget:

LOL Grim but true. Because I've never heard the context of the statement I'm not sure what she meant by it. It could be that she was simply lamenting the fact that someone with such potential (Abigail) was "wasting" it on dope, which is certainly insensitive and not her place to judge (and also, it would seem, untrue) but not quite as atrocious as it sounds with no context.

Did Kathie mean that Gibby was a drug user like she was except that Gibby was doing something for the community rather than murdering people like Kathie did? I imagine that she was young when she said that, though it in no way excuses it.

With Katie, if she bought into Helter Skelter (and I really think she was whacked out enough to buy it completely) she may have viewed herself as a visionary druggie and not just your common household druggie.

When she made that comment (I believe a parolle hearing)I wonder how much influence CM still had on her. She has always been the one you heard from the least, and you have to wonder where she is inside her head.

I have always found it interesting that while Sadie got the press, Katie was the most involved overall. Sadie did Hinman and Tate, but Katie was at two events where more were killed. Tex also, for that matter.

All accounts show Katie to be intimately active in both murders, calling Tex to help with Leno and chasing Folger with a knife.

For me I question her suitability years later. She has a cold side that you see in her hearings that I really think you dont see with the other two girls. I also think she does the alligator tears better than some actresses

She does seem to have a strange disconnect during her hearings. Almost like she gave up on getting out maybe? When did the parole hearings stop being taped? I miss seeing them.

They are still taped, but the prisoner has control on them to a degree. LuLu's last one was taped, but she was not shown from the front at her request.

Is this available to view somewhere? Or if not a transcript available?

I think it is fair to say that once Susan was "saved" that she did do a lot with her life in prison ... however she went to prison before she did all those things....and it is too bad that she and the others commited the crimes that landed them in prison to begin with. They (not condoning their crimes for a minute)are also victims of Charles Manson in a sense. Probably if the case did not have the notoriety that it has Leslie, Bruce and maybe even Susan would be out on parole but I think Pat and Tex would still be in jail.

I may be wrong (b/c I haven't seen it for a long time) but in the interview with Diane Sawyer, I believe that Pat alludes to the fact that Abigail Folger was an abuser of drugs. The whole argument is ridiculous because there is no justification for murder and they (the killers) had no idea who they were killing in the first place and it didn't matter who they killed either. They were just told to go and kill everyone. Pat may come off cold because she thinks she got sort of a bum rap for being a cult member and being punished for what she is did for her "god" at the time. I could be just reading that into the interview however... :P

I think they really wanted to kill these "beautiful people". Was it was because they thought the BP were encroaching on their drug business, the rich getting richer, or another reason yet unknown.

I agree. In the end he was shunned by them, Dennis, Melcher, Altobelli and who knows who else. Remember the girls continously talking about Charlie's beauty and how beautiful they were, how he brought out the beauty in those around him. I think that is why the victims were disfigured, didn't Susan say that they had to destroy their beauty to bring out their inner beauty?

I don't believe it's coldness - she simply has a low iq so says thoughtless stupid things more regularly than most of us.... and has her errors of logic or judgement and her struggle with making more insightful poetic sorts of comments that our hearts may wish for widely publicised. Not trying to be cruel - but the girl is a dullard, moreso than Grogan.

I don't recall reading anything that would support her having a lower than average IQ. I think the biggest problem for her and most others in this group is a huge self esteem problem. They gravitated to someone who made them feel just as good or better than all who had looked down on them before.

well, you definately have to have some wires loose to do what she did, but I am curious to know if there is any documentation of any intelligence testing done on any of them as part of the phychological profile. I would safely say such testing would be done, but documentation would be interesting.

I have viewed as many of the interviews with her as I can, and do not find her overly unintelligent sounding, but more just emotionless unless the situation calls for her oscar worthy tears on demand
