Yes, I know, you hate the thought of Spring cleaning. But wait, it gets worse.

I need everyone to dive into their Messenger conversations folder and start deleting.

One of the reasons Cats brought me on as staff (other than payment for my sins and transgressions) was to clean the forum up a bit and to get it working more smoothly and a bit faster. One of the things I've come across since the conversion to IPB is an incredible amount of Private Messages. One member noticed and asked if I could increase the limits a bit, but I'm not going to change them. Instead, I need each one of you to go through and start jettisoning the messages you don't need and saving the ones you do want to your local boxes. If I can get the weight of eleventy-bazillion PMs off the shoulders of the database, things will start picking up speed.

I don't like picking on single individuals in cases like this, but right after the conversion, Cats pointed out she could not send me any PMs. So I ended up increasing the limit for admins to 1,000 messages. I was able to then receive messages, but Cats still couldn't. I bumped it to 1,200 and still no hope. I bumped it to 1,500 and still no hope. :gripe:

I went through my own Messenger this morning and cleared out 860 messages. If I can bin that many, I'm sure everyone else can dump a few themselves.

I know, I know, you think I'm being OCD about it. Actually, I am not. I refuse to have OCD until somebody gets the letters in alphabetic order!

Thanks for helping us out with this!

My box is now squeaky clean - over 900 messages purged. Oh, the catharsis.

Beat you to the punch. I did mine the day you converted and we could all get on. I don't think I had 900 like jem, but I was at 100% capacity. But, thanks, Mike, I didn't realize that saving messages could slow things down. I'm not all that computer literate. Thanks for what you are doing. Don't think its going unappreciated. :cats3:

Wow, 900? I had one. I probably don't want to dwell on that too long. Posted Image

:cats21: I am here to make your life miserable Mike...you know that...and I think it repopulated all the PM's from the beginning of time-had some pop back from 2007..

I promised to prune them this weekend. :woops:

Cats, are you going to share with us how many messages you delete? :jester:

Me too. But on the other hand it does spare me from the virtual spring cleaning which, as I've spent all day cleaning (and hammering, drilling, sanding, painting - repeat ad nauseum) is very welcome. Am now off for a stiff G+T and a hot bath to ease my poor aching back...
The trouble with having an open mind is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

I was at 100% capacity too and also deleted around 900 messages. I was a bit confused because I did delete many messages after reading them on the previous board. (Do they get stored as trash?) Anyway, I deleted the majority of them and will go through the remaining ones soon. (I got to the point where I was just deleting--too time consuming to try to read them and decide what to save--esp. since I kept coming across the same messages)

LOL at Mike's comment about alphabetizing OCD!! :hooray:
