I might be barking up the wrong tree here, or even repeating a thread not known to me ... but does anyone have any thoughts as to whether DDD was a police informer???

    Shel,
It would answer many questions if he were a CI.

This possibility occurred to me a while ago. He was star witness for the prosecution as far as BB went, his word sending BB back for retrial and then down for 40 odd years. He featured in the TLB trial as witness. His movements post TLB have been mysterious, despite occasionally coming up for air. At the end of Simon's book, Simon tries to track him down and is warned off by the Canadian authorities. He seems to have walked away from charge after charge ...

Good post Shelly. I always thought that the cops/prosecution had Danny between a rock and a hard place. He was facing serious time on a couple serious charges. The prosection promised to get the sentencing reduced or eliminated if he "played ball". If he helped out in this fashion it would indeed mean he was a snitch BUT not necessarily a confidential informant. That is a pertinent question though. In Helter Skelter, Danny was afraid of the family and supposedly professed this info to Bugliosi. Someone supposedly snuck up on him while he was asleep one night. I would like to know more about this but like many other happenings it is briefly mention then left alone . Then again, around that time, he shows up in pictures @ Spahn Ranch just hanging out like in the good old days. To be fair many of those who were witnesses for the prosecution had on again of again relationship w/ the family that makes no sense to me. Paul Watkins got burned up somehow, felt the need to arm himself while in Death Valley w/ Crockett, but came back like everything was just peachy. Kitty gave info to prosecution but she came and went. Brunner, after helping to send BobbyB to the gas chamber, came and went. Definitely a VERY strange group dynamic the Family was, it is one aspect of this case that really peaks my interest.
