Hello everyone, Something I noticed the other day on Susan Atkins' homepage. In the photo-biography section of the website under 1973 it is written that "Susan writes the Superintendent, disavowing any connection with the Manson family in or out of the institution. Staff notes a great deal of anti-family sentiment.” The photograph of Susan is one where she has short hair and is wearing a white dress. The photo, however, is cropped as the actual photograph she is standing between Mary Brunner and Catherine Share (both in prison for the Hawthorne robbery) who, likewise, are wearing white dresses and have short locks. So much for "anti-family sentiment". Has anyone else seen these pictures? Thanks. -NSS
Interesting observation, NSS. I am inclined to believe that James Whitehouse chose that picture. Which, if true, is a bit odd to me. If I were JW, I would have chosen a current pic from that time in which Susan denounced Manson and certainly not some cropped picture of Susan from a Family group shot. I wonder if James Whitehouse is somewhat like George Stimson(sp) ? A "Manson-ite" himself who got off on being with or married to a real Manson girl much like Stimson was with Sandy Good. Of course, that is only my speculation.
share and brunner were not manson family members when the picture was taken. they were following kenneth como at the time--no improvement in my opinion. they were going to break out of prison and asked atkins to break out with them but she said no. they were caught.
So, that pic is actually from that time ? As in Susan denounces Manson then Share and Brunner come visit (picture taken) hoping to get Susan to help them with the breakout ?
It's in Child of Satan, Child of God , and it can be here on this website. According to the book, the escape attempt happened sometime in 1973. The issue came up at one of Atkins' parole hearings as well, i.e., what she did and didn't do. The concealment of hack saw blades leaves much to be desired, however.
brunner and share were in prison for the hawthorne robbery. they had left manson by this time and were following kenneth como. the manson women were never really at odds during this period in that the one's who were still with manson like fromme and good were still on friendly terms with those who were with como such as pitman, share, and brunner. these interconnections are really soap opera like.
Hello everyone, Here is a link to the picture: http://connect.in.com/leslie-van-houten/photos-mansongals2-8e6a88b804a64fbc.html Cheers, NSS
Oops sorry - I misread the original post; I was correcting the caption on the photo. I obviously need a refresher course in reading comprehension.
