A friend brought this to my attention. On Ebay under Susan Atkins, someone is selling a pastel reportedly done by SA selling for a mere $50,000.00. Only one day left to place a bid. How does a prisoner, in for murder, have their art, jewelry, writings, or even music (Manson, Beausoleil) transferred outside the prison? Joe
In this case, personal belongings are given to the next of kin, they do not belong to the prison. After that, JW can do what he wants with the items.
I just looked at this item. The description said that it was sold to "my sister in law's mother" who had been incarcerated along with Susan, this was in 2000 and that it was sold to make money for the victims' families. It does look like a pretty painting.
But for $50,000??? :jawdrop: I owe that much on my house!!!!!!!! oor: Must be nice to have the money to even THINK about purchasing it.
I would rather have Charlie's vest, that would have been something to see. I read somewhere that it was sent to him at the prison and he cut it up and gave the pieces to other inmates. I doubt that is true. I don't think they would have allowed him to receive it. The fur lined dune buggy would be a nice addition to someone's car collection too.
Some of her other pieces are pictured on her website (the one run by her husband). I remember thinking she was quite talented. Add that to the long list of waste and shame accumulated by these crimes.
I also just went to see the painting on E Bay... It is a very pretty picture.. there is only about 15 hours left of the auction.... They do have $50,000.00 listed as a price.. The person that is selling the item for her Sister-in-Laws Mother (who was in jail w/ Susan), seems to be someone that sells a lot on E Bay... She also stated on there that the painting was sold in 2000 to raise money for the Tate - Labianca families. I guess my question is if the families ever saw that $, even though I probably know the answer to my question. I doubt that she received much from the woman that purchased it, as she had been in prison with little or no way to make money.... So, my next question is... when someone is in prison and sells something that they made and they are court ordered to give the proceeds to the families of victims of their crimes, who is in charge of making sure that that money goes to the proper people? Is there an advocate at the prison that handles this? Thanks for any input!!!
Yes the authorities tried to pot Susan for these "commercial" transactions ie stop them, but looked pretty silly when her lawyer showed the Parole Board all proceeds had gone to Frykowskis family. It seems this family was/is the only one accepting of reparation.
So the items that we see that are made by Manson, are the proceeds going to the Frykowski's family also? Or are the items being snuck out of the prison by people to be sold? I believe that I read somewhere that Manson has become very wealthy off the items that he has sold ( I don't remember where I read it though!)
I keep hearing from some of my friends that if someone has money to buy goodies and has on hand lots and lots of ciggerettes (spelling), they will not be picked on in prison. I have a friend, who STUPIDLY, gives money to an ex-boyfriend who is a gang member, drug dealer and beat my friend while he was with her countless of times. I don't know why she would do this, but I was told by another friend that she does. I guess she doesn't want him to get hurt, although, I'm sure he can take care of himself whether he had money or not. If he can beat on a woman, I'm sure he wouldn't think twice about beating on another inmate. I didn't know of putting money on their "books" (I lead a sheltered, crime-free life ), so wonder if someone is doing this to Manson, since he is responsible for murdering a pregnant woman and that is a no-no in the prison world. Just my :twocents: .
I have looked at Susan's art as well, and I think she had talent. (though I hesitate to admit it as well...) It does make one wonder what would have happened to everyone if things had been different. I wonder what Susan's life would have become if she ran into James (though he probably wasnt old enough) back then. Can't help but wonder about these things.
I wondered the same thing, too, Cats. Its too bad that her talent went to waste. I wonder if Manson knew of her artistic abilities? He could of had her paint and sell her paintings out on the streets for the extra money they seemed to always need. I wonder if Susan thought she wasted her talent, also?
She had met someone decent around the time of entering the Manson zone, but was so impressed by Manson that she flagged a relationship with Mr good guy, picked it up again once she was sentenced to life... it lasted a few years but then he met someone else and bailed. No name was mentioned as she was protective of his privacy. The upset was outlined in parole transcripts as being one contributant to flipping out and marrying the Lai$ure. I think whoever is selling the painting is deluded re value. To my mind it is worth a few thousand (up to 5 tops maybe) on its merit, but gains no mark up from her "bad name". Her creativity led her to Manson and that subculture, she has defined herself as an aspiring artiste/muso. She was in glee club, a dancer as well. And chose good art for her cell walls right from the get go. If not for the '60s rather than if not for Manson I think she'd have flourished given opportunity. Her jewellery creations are pretty cool. The natural themes would suggest as a more sensitive soul she found the concrete surrounds specially jarring.
Where is Charlie's vest? If I remember correctly Red & Blue had it before both were imprisoned. Is it still - directly or indirectly - in their hands?
I think it was after that period. I forget which or around what year...maybe if someone has a copy of it they could reference it.
Yes, Susan did have artistic ability and if only.... I believe the blame should be placed squarely upon CM's .........mom. If she wouldn't have been such a selfish beech, perhaps young Charles would have had a better chance at a productive life. His descent into criminality might have never happened. Say what you will, CM did have an inkling of musical talent. He might have made something POSITIVE of himself. Yeah, if only........
