Just a post to remember Gary Hinman on this day- July 27, 2010. Who knows at what point in his several days of being held he was, but hopefully he is at peace now.

The Hinman murder makes me especially sad. According to all accounts he was such a gentle, generous soul.

Gary's purpose in life may have been in fact his unnecessary death. Without Susan in jail on murder charges, the police might never have caught the Tate Labianca killers. But I agree it is very sad. The second LaBianca murder report references the similarities between the Hinman killings with writings on the wall in blood and the same with the Labianca killings another point to consider. The Labianca family should say a prayer for Gary Hinman today.

I too want to say RIP Gary for your untimely death-your killer(s) are in prison and will most likely be there until their own death.

R.I.P. Gary. You were murdered on my birthday and I thought about you yesterday. I pray your killers will never go free (and I doubt that they will).

By most accounts all of the victims were very nice people. I have my doubts about Frykowski, personally I think the guy was a turd but that's just IMO. Hinman was in many ways more a true hippy than any of the other players in this saga. A gentle, spiritual human being. I hope he rests in peace.

I'd stick a piece of Buddist wisdom here but I really don't know any. . . . Oh wait! I remember one that my grandfather used to say.
Man who fly airplane upside down have crack up. No disrespect intended.

I agree with you FB. Hinman seemed to represent the most genuine and idealistic side of the hippie movement. As for Frykowski, I find this brief portrait from Polanski's autobiography interesting:

"The press painted an astonishingly inaccurate picture of Wojtek Frykowski, describing him as a 'major drug purveyor.' In many ways, Wojtek was one of the squarest people I've ever known. I enjoyed his company and felt a sense of loyalty to the old friend who'd enabled me to make Mammals [an early Polanski film] and later fallen on hard times. I didn't begrudge Wojtek his taste for the good life. Certain visitors to our Cielo Drive house objected to his everlasting presence, calling him a lounge lizard, and criticized him for sunning himself beside the pool with a glass of wine always at hand. But it was my house, Wojtek was my friend, I didn't mind him drinking my wine, and there was nothing evil or underhanded about him.

"The myth of Wojtek the big-time drug dealer stemmed largely from a report that he'd had dealings with known pushers. Sometime in April [1969], Sharon and I had given a big party. Gate-crashers turned up, as they often did at Hollywood parties. Three of them became obstreperous and were ejected with Wojtek's help. One of the trio, who knew him, swore to get even. All three turned out to be small-time pushers, and it was this incident that gave rise to the drug connections theory. The whereabouts of all three men were carefully checked, but all had cast-iron alibis for the night of the murders" (Roman, 1985 ed., p 297).

Polanski actually knew the man and didn't mind the freeloading, so be it. What makes him a turd in my opinion was the fact that he was living off his wealthy girlfriend producing close to nothing himself. . I'm kind of old fashion that way. .Sorry ladies, I'm not a feminist.

According to her psychiatrist Abigail was unhappy in the relationship and looking to end it. So maybe even though Polanski didn't mind his freeloading it was getting on Abigail's nerves.

Personally it says something to me about his character that he fought the killers so furiously, even after he was mortally wounded. He seemed energized by his rage at these lunatics who were killing him and his friends. The image of him staggering out of the house and roaring at the top of his lungs into the night air for help...and of Tex finally dispatching him...haunts me.

Lounge lizard he definitely was and drug dealer he might have been, but no one deserves to die like that.

Bobby says Hinman was standoffish and a bit of recluse. He didnt overly like him it seems, but then again, he was a murderer, and who knows what personality traits a murderer enjoys

And then, if the rumors are to be believed, they were doing the horizontal bop.

Laughing. The one I am interested in, is Jon Marsh, the Marine that is listed as Gary's Roomate by the LAPD...that appeared for the trial but never got to testify and was drug off as AWOL...had stuff to say on Kasabian.
