Vince states in HS that the night the LaBianca's were killed, the rest went on to do another location. They were foiled in this attempt, but he states that as they left, "Sadie, ever the animal, deficated on the landing". Where does this come from. Im pretty sure it had to be from Sadie, but I have never found anything to support this claim.
Well, in this case, it has more to do with why Vince would include it, were it not substantiated. I have found him to do it often, but he takes some liberties at times with his writing. In this case, it was obviously included in the book to demonstrate that Susan WAS an animal capable of anything. But, if there is nothing to validate it, why bother? She established herself an animal repeatedly. I hate agendas, so if this was done without validation, it is irresponsible in my opinion. If there is validation, I admit, I am curious who and when
This coming from me is going to sound weird, but we can't validate everything. And even if we had a photo of the crap on the floor we still couldn't prove it hadn't been shopped. It's the kind of daredevil thing a young person - possibly high - might do, and if observed, the kind of thing people would talk about. Funny, I'm happier to accept this than a lot of the other crap put out. Pause for English joke (best told aloud): A. What's brown, steams and comes out of Cowes? B. I don't know. What's brown, steams and comes out of Cowes? A. The Isle of Wight ferry .....
For the perplexed, Cowes is a Port town on the Isle of Wight, off the coast of Southern England.
Jem
All good points, and like I said, I am not looking for a long disertation from Vince on this matter. I just find it odd that it is included in the book, but no where in any testimony do I find anything to support it. I further find it interesting that it is included. Realizing primarily that it is included to show how truely vulgar she was in act and thought, I do understand that it is a minor thing, but I also know that if it is unsubstantiated, it is unnessasary. This is a girl that admitted under oath she considered taking the baby. Drugged out people do all sorts of things unmedicated people would never consider. I do not doubt she was capable of doing it, I am more interested in why it would be included in the book. It really does seem oddly out of place with everything else both prior and following.
You know, every time I think these forums have addressed every subject imaginable, examined from every possible perspective... It sounds like something someone who was high might do, especially if they're not poo shy. And these people were used to relieving themselves in woods and deserts and on movie ranches. Sanders wrote about them running around barefoot in horse poop and squishing it between their toes... Who knows? Obviously VB collected every anecdote he could in order to smear (sorry) SA and portray her as "uncivilized." But one would hope that Cielo, et al would be evidence enough.
well, i was TRYING not to be indelicate. You know, when you research these murders with today's internet functions, you really do start to microscope this stuff. It is insignificant, but still of interest. Not the action itself, but the reporting of it and the sourcing.
Not knowing Sadie's frame of mind at the time, perhaps there was no meaning to it other than 'when ya gotta go, ya gotta go' wether your on a misson of murder or takin in a ballgame.
no question there. My main question is where was this first reported to Vince? What is his source on this. The only logical source is Sadie, as tthe others never confessed to anything, other than Linda. But no where in any of the documents do we find this.
I am not surprised if she did this. This is gross, but my family home was burgled many years ago, they took a crap in the living room. the cop on duty told us it is a common occurence, due to nerves and or adrenalin. Given the severity of what Sadie was involved in, again, not surprised.
It is gross, no doubt. But, then again, we look at photos of mutilated bodies here too. I have to think somewhere at some point Sadie bragged to Vince that she did this, since I cannot find any testimony about it. She was an animal, no doubt
Definitely one area of investigation that one does not want to "sink their teeth into". SA (her behavior) was "demonized" (she was less than human) so to speak; defecating on steps---mild in comparison with the reports of her performing fellatio on little Ze Zo Ze Cee; and drinking the blood of Sharon Tate. You are right, her actions (regardless of what they were) and the outcome at Cielo was horrific enough.........
I happened to thumb through my copy and actually found this reference. Its on page 361 of my copy, Mine's a recent copy with the 1994 afterword. It's in section"March 1970" around the middle. I also searched Google books with a phrase in same sentence and turns up there too, so can read it here in context if this link works, it's about halfway down the page: http://books.google.com/books?id=vIrB5r5BuhUC&lpg=PA1&dq=helter%20skelter&pg=PA361#v=onepage&q=%22three%20then%20left%20the%20building%22&f=false The section is in reference to Linda's interview, so seems like source is Linda. If fact a few paragraphs before this reference it mentions Susan did not mention the Venice episode, so doesn't sound like this tidbit of info came from Susan.
Besides Atkins; Kasabian and Grogan were there....... as well as apt. tenants. Anyone witnessing such an act would probably not forget it.........even though they wanted to erase it permanently from memory......
I agree with creepycrawler; I've always believed the source was Linda. And if I were reporting the book, I'd use the anecdote also just to provide a full picture of the kind of person Sadie was: gross and utterly lacking or caring about societal conventions. For some reason - and maybe this says something more than I'd like to consider about myself - but that passage about her has always stayed with me; it really made an impression upon me about just what kind of person she was.
