Thank you for posting Mona's picture, really she was far more beautiful then what she looked like in this picture. She always was photogenic, never took a bad picture. Cats, thank you for all your support and I will get back to you asap with a few more questions about the next thing to do, I had not seen the picture that wad posted for 35 years so it took me a little time to calm down, it has been a long drawn out process but I really think if the right questions are asked and the right information is given, SOMEBODY KNOWS A BIT MORE THEN WE HAVE BEEN TOLD SO FAR. I found this site while researching the disappearance of Robin Ann Graham. The wikipedia article for Robin mentions Mona Jean Gallegos and others who vanished while stranded on freeways around the Los Angeles area. Rodney Alcala was already active as a killer in the early 1970s in the same area and one does wonder if he is the one responsible. Youtube has clips of Alcala's 1978 appearance on the TV show the dating game.
Will have to look at you tube for that. I think somewhere else in Mona's info here, the timeframe for him to have abducted Mona indeed did not fit.
Are you doing a report, or what type of info do you need? I have a lot of stuff on her and Mona and the other girls that disappeared.
If anyone else can come up with other names of women that disappeared, I can find stuff on them too... I always thought there was a serial murderer roaming the highway during that period.
I've had an interest in missing persons for over a decade now. I wish all the missing had their own wikipedia articles. The wiki article for Robin Ann Graham mentions a Rose Tashman but I can't find anything on her. It also alludes to other young woman going missing after being stranded on freeways but does not mention names. I found theses other 3 names on a different site: Cindy Lee Mellin, Ernestine Frances Tevello, and Ann Marie Robinsons. They also disappeared while stranded on freeways around the Los Angeles area. I also believe there was a serial killer trolling the freeways in the wee hours looking for victims in the early 70s.
There are articles on Rose Tashman on the site somewhere....Maybe in the San Fran Killer board...if not search for Tashman in the search box. I will look for stuff on the others as well.
I have a couple. Cindy Lee Mellin- Vanished 1/20/70 from Ventura, CA. After she got off work at night, she found that her car had a flat tire. Other co-workers who left work saw a man changing her tire for her. Early the next morning, her car was found up on the jack,with the flat tire still on it. A closer examination determined that her tire had been deliberately punctured with a sharp instrument on the sidewall. Police theorized that her abductor tampered with her car, waited for her to come out,then offered to help her. (much like the 1966 Cheri Jo Bates case in Riverside) Cindy has not been found. Anne Marie Robinson- Vanished January, 1972 after leaving her job in Gardena, CA. Her car was found 2 blocks away with a "flat tire". She was never found. Ernestine Terello- On April 30, 1972...she Pulled over to tend to a "flat tire" on the Ventura Freeway in Agoura, CA. Her car was found there but she was not there. Her body was found close to a month later on the Circle X boy scout ranch in the Santa Monica mountains. She was fully clothed, and was found with over $2000 worth of jewelery on. News articles reported she may have been sexually assaulted, but I personally spoke to a Detective handling her case, and he stated that she was NOT sexually assaulted. Police theorized that a "good samaritan" had come by and offered help before he attacked her. And in general, below is an article about an attacker in the Van Nuys area, who in late 1967, was signalling female motorists to pull over indicating their tire was about to fall off. Once they pulled over, he would attack and/or abduct them.
Thanks for the extra info. If my memory is correct, I remember reading somewhere something about a man in a red car. This mysterious man, who ever he is, seems to be the one who was prowling the freeways in Los Angeles. There is also a story on the internet about a woman who contacted either the police or one of the victims family to tell them that she was approached by a man in a red car to offering her a ride.
