.....Everything that you do, you must, you must, You must, you must. You must realize that there is no one else here but you. Nobody else cares about you. You could die a thousand times and people would step over your body. Realize that you’re the only one there is, that without you doing it, that nobody else is going to do it. Without you picking it up and carrying it, nobody else is going to carry it. You’ve got to carry it. - Charles Manson, January 2011 I can't help but note his well honed use of repetition and commands exhirting action as the finale - very much like how narcissistic politicians and evangelical preachers use vocal techniques to induce trance and suggestible states in their flock of sheep.
The source (cringe to use that word) http://atwaart.jigsy.com/savior-project where if you are grateful to have been touched by CMs wisdom you can donate by paypal to help with his new "saviour project", god forbid.
I can remember when I was about 19 and under no drug stronger than Jim Beam and a friend of mine had me entranced and actually believing he was somehow ethereal. I later found that he was quoting some Metallica lyrics, but I always think of this in relation to CM and his control over his followers.
This will be an unfavorable opinion no doubt but I don't see any downside to Manson's powerful use of speech when it comes to his environmental/spiritual views on things, most of which I agree with completely. All the "prophets" of the past were eccentric & persuasive in their speech. Research the Prophet Muhammad.
This is true a testament to the time one has while locked up to learn and hone there skill. There are those out there that will disagree and there are those that will agree. and so we move forward to see what the next post will bring. Vince
I think the true impact of Charlie's rhetoric -- like that of Hitler and a thousand other petty dictators -- derives its power from the mere fact that there is absolutely zero tolerance for a dissenting view. They make it that way -- but shutting up or banishing or suppressing anything and anyone else who could stand up and say, "Wait a minute, jerko -- what the heck are you talking about?" At Spahn -- where it appears that the more malignant aspects of life in the Family started to play out -- there were no watches, no clocks, no newspapers, no radios, and limited access to television. Reality was whatever and whenever Charlie said it was. If it was brilliant sunshine out and Charlie said it was midnight, it was midnight. There was no one strong enough, brave enough, or un-stoned enough to tell Charlie he was full of the kaka. Those who figured it out left, or got run out of town. If the only link to reality you have is the Beatle's White Album -- however much a masterpiece of musicianship that may or may not be -- your anchor's not particularly useful. If you're taking speed and LSD and peyote and God knows what else in God knows what combination, you're pretty much open to whatever anyone tells you. And if they keep telling it -- without you having anything to compare it to -- I would suggest that for most people it'd be a very short hop to believing it wholeheartedly.
Er, haven't I seem that avatar before somewhere, Mr Uzername? This may equally be an unfavourable opinion, but I really don't see Manson's 'powerful use of speech' at all. I see/hear him as often as not as semi-coherent, to the point of losing it. When he does try to use some of the baloney he's picked up along the way he's derivative and confused. Of course he pretty much had a captive audience (and still does, it seems, for some acolytes). If you're lost (in the rain in Juarez, perhaps), if you're strung out on acid or if you're simply weak-willed and not especially bright then maybe you'll hang on his words, but I would think that even then most people with a lick of sense would have sussed Charlie as a conman (he knew how to exploit weakness and frailty) and given him a wide berth. But going back to the 'powerful use of speech' I would not ascribe to Manson any more rhetorical skill than a first year student at university, and believe me they're not that bright these days either. I agree....let me add to it with this......... Do you remember the YouTube exerpt Simon Wells, contributed (I can't find it unfortunately) of the 1967 studio recording of Manson, replete with his intermittent philosophizing? I think it shed some insight into the mind of Manson and the lure........and some validation (in the minds of young, impressionable kids) of his role as teacher, protector, survivor, and even leader. Plus, he was 'rubbing shoulders' (I know, I'm opening the door on this one) with a rock star (Dennis Wilson) and recording studio personnel. Plus, LSD, in 1967 was strong and was relatively pure (fewer additives or contaminates). I would assume large quantities of good quality acid were still available in 1968 too. GIve strong, relatively pure acid to young people, with a charismatic person like Manson and they too can experience, "no-mind, unconditional love, acceptance, destruction of false ego, etc." Manson had loyal followers, to a point and as you point out, still does. I think Charlie's utopian dream went to 'hell in a hand-basket' when the group moved to Spahn Ranch....I personally don't think Manson and his minions could contain what was inside them all along........"anger, hatred, lust, and greed"..... As the old saying goes, "squeeze an orange, you get orange juice".....but when you 'squeeze' or put pressure on someone with hate and anger inside........ Manson and some of his Family or minions could not extricate themselves from him simply because they were like him, in many ways.
..and it's Easter time too, And gravity fails and negativity wont pull you through, Don't put on any airs when your down on rue morgue avenue, They got some hungry women there and they'l really make a mess outa you. Couldn't resist mighty duck LOL
I noticed in the first watching of Hendriksons 'Manson' documentary that Squeaky, Sandy and Nancy all sound the same like automatons. They have the same vocal mannerisms, much the same pitch and tend to recite the same mantra's. I also saw the same in Paul Watkins even though he was allegedly 'de-programmed. Any body else feel the same?
Yes vespasia. Even in the the later interviews and parole hearings of the women, they still have the same vocal intonations. Pretty creepy, eh?? FB
I don't think I could of fallen for his 'hypnotic' bs because whenever I TRY to listen to him, he makes me hot under the collar, I start to squirm and then my head starts to hurt and then I want to scream at the top of my lungs to STHU!!! As much as I just absolutely HATE to admit this, during the time of HS, he did have a certain something about him, and I can see how the girls would of fallen for him, but I don't think I could be one of them because of my allergic reaction to him :bw:
You might be surprised...... I suspect that some individuals, especially with Right Wing Neo-Con racist views would gravitate toward Charlie and the Family. Some beliefs/ideology ascribed to Manson: --bigotry/racial prejudice with possible racist overtones--the Family was a 'whites only club', --women were for procreational purposes, objects of sexual desire, seamstresses, cooks, and gatherers (not hunters) -- scavengers of garbage dumpsters, --refused to pay taxes (federal, state, & local) --- almost like sovereign citizens, -- disdain for civil rights activists -- became the objects of hatred, victimization, and murder, --rebels against the government mandates -- ingested LSD & smoked cigarettes profusely, --beliefs in god incarnate as man -- unfortunately the Family's christ was CM -- nonetheless the Family believed in a higher power, --engaged in a poor man's white flight -- to Spahn's ranch then Barker's Ranch, --much obsessive fantasy about white people v. black people violence, --anti-union -- the Family didn't collectively bargain, pay union dues, or support workers striking, --belief in the right to own and stockpiling of arms -- believed in at least one constitutional right, --no or little support for public education -- primary, secondary, etc....
