Wonder why these charges never equalled a parole violation. If only they would have, maybe it would have changed history. Interesting he was popped for growing pot.
And intent to do bodily harm. Also, the rape charge is there...so that does confirm it happened, but it appears nothing came of that either.

I have always wondered where CM's parole officer was leading up to T/LB? With all the illegal things going on at Spahn Ranch why was he not picked up on A parole violation long before? Any thoughts? CT
I have always wondered where CM's parole officer was leading up to T/LB? With all the illegal things going on at Spahn Ranch why was he not picked up on A parole violation long before? Any thoughts? CT
You know, I have been thinking about this and Manson was on parole from the Federal prison system and all the charges that stacked up between his last release and the killings were all state things were they not. Maybe it was due to the lag time of everyone getting on the same page . Today, with everything computerized there would be little to no lag time but back in the 60's it was all done on paper.
Roger Smith, of the Haight Ashbury clinic (not to be confused with David Smith of the Clinic) was Manson's P.O. before Barrett. According to what is written, he and his wife actually got temporary custody of Pooh Bear and that the girls went and picked PB up from him. (how does that happen). I need to find, or someone can if they will, the date around that happened. For then along comes Barrett, according to this, who was Manson's PO at least a year before the murders:
I think they went with Clem in Terry Melcher's car.. I read that somewhere...to pick up Pooh Bear I mean
No Police sources have said he was protected from high up - maybe up to Governor level, perhaps explaining why the FBI files are not for release, and how he knew about raids in advance despite some Police champing at the bit; “Right before Manson fell asleep he said “oh, we’re being raided in the morning” and he conks out. Gypsy remembers and she just layed up thinking about it. And then at six o’clock in the morning over two mountains they came; there was two hundred of them…” — Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme, 1972 (Quote Source: Inside The Manson Gang) Untouchable one minute, then the State goes all out to try and implicate him via the Helter S nonsense, apparently wanting him permanently shut up. ?The man who knows too much... and now says he'll have others spill his secret once he's gone. If I were him I'd be using the dirty secret as leverage to ensure that appeal gets a hearing, not waiting for post mortem vindication or mitigation. There again if you were an agent (not saying he is/was but the context could make this possible), one who took patriotism seriously, then you might believe you ought not ever spill on details of your works for Uncle Sam. Removes TFH.
Thanks TooLate. I read that interview years ago and couldn't remember the name of the Officer or where I read it.. Only that he was a retired Sheriff. This is the kind of stuff that makes one reach for that TFH. FB
Speaking of TFHs... in the Marlin Marynick book "Charles Manson Now" Charlie talks about the time just after his release from prison in 1967. He says (in the foreward on page 24)... "So I go outside, and I go over to the music and the Grateful Dead is playing, and they put me on the witness program. Not because I snitched on somebody or betrayed a trust. I didn't snitch on nobody and I didn't betray a trust, but they've got me on the Federal Witness program. They say "Leave this man alone, do not put him in jail in any direction whatsoever" He then rambles on for a bit and at the end he says... "And so, I'm out there walking around, here comes the State of California and the Italian Mafia, district attorney..." He mentions being on the Federal Witness program at least one other time in the book. Whether this a (fairly obvious) hint or just the crazed ramblings of a disordered mind is beyond me... but I know what Mae Brussell would make of it
So how do you get on witness program if not a snitch, is this Manson talk for becoming a future snitch or recruit underworld spy of sorts, in order to get early release... which as he didn't want release much unless fame or greatness was a strong prospect... makes no sense. I suppose you could enjoy protection from legal woes if you were acting in some way as a mafia worker, given it's reach into the system, and he was enamoured of Alvin Karpis. Those blanked out sections in his FBI file are where the truth about TLB lies. Is it 50 years before classified info must be released in the USA or is it after all involved are dead, by law, Dill?
Dill I was researching some information on another murder case that accord on February 29, 1952 in the city of Oakland, California in which I was able to get copies of a portion of the information. while working with a Reference Coordinator from the California State Archives office in Sacramento. I was told classified information can only be released after 75 years, so needless to say I was able to get some info I have been looking for but will have to wait a while for the rest (2023) only another 12 years. Vince
Methinks your math is a bit faulty. 1952 + 75 = 2027, not 2023. I really don't like considering about how that murder occurred that many years ago, because that was just 30 months prior to my birth. And there's no way I can only be 16 years away from being 73. <sigh>
maybe he is the suit that showed up at BG's door the night of the murders with the 3 eyed baby? I can certainly understand one of their kids having such a birth defect.......... LOL..........just kidding. FB
Dill, sorry for the scare. I would blame it on the time change but I already feel dumb enough. Thank you, you are correct 2027. Vince
