I was vaguely aware of it being shot, and of Lindsay Lohan getting fired from the set IIRC, but I saw something on "Entertainment Tonight" about it. I must say I'm looking forward to its release -- 2012 I think. Link with a little footage and some case/director interviews: http://www.etonline.com/movies/116305_Behind_the_Scenes_with_the_Manson_Girls/index.html Looks like a lot of lesbo angle for one thing. I'm sure the movie will play fast and loose with the facts -- Hollywood always does -- but it's not a documentary and the cinema is more about trying to capture the essence of something getting all the details correct. The fact that it's focused on the girls rather than Charlie is in and of itself an interesting approach. And when you get down to it, Charlie's ability to get young women to commit homicide for him is the main reason this case is so interesting, and the main reason people know about it more than 40 years after -- if Charlie and Tex and Bruce had killed a bunch of people, I doubt most of us would even know about it. There will certainly be increased traffic on this site, which will expose a lot of people (especially young people) to the facts our dear Kitty Cat has labored so long and hard to bring to us. And, hey, I'm a relative noob so the more the merrier.
The imdb site has the full cast and crew. I don't recognize most of the names of the actors, they all look so young I doubt they even knew the story until a script was presented to them! Looks like Pitman isn't going to be in the movie, Lohan was supposed to have played her, I think. I may wait until I can see it on one of the movie channels, free. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1408045/fullcredits#cast
Sometime this month they're auctioning off a walk on role in this movie. For a film that was supposed to start shootin last summer they sure are takin it nice and slow. Maybe someone here can win and sneak a ToTLB sticker onto a background prop or something! :wacky:
I also read somewhere over the summer that Lindsay Lohan might be cast as Sharon Tate in a movie. BAD IDEA!!!!!! I'm sorry to her fans but she is far to skanky to portray such a classic beauty. Someone even commented on the article that Lohan is a dead ringer for Sharon?! Uh, no, I just don't see it.
Apparently, Lindsay was originally part of the "Manson Girls" prospective cast, but was dropped in 2008. I presume that's before filming began. But there are not one, not two, but THREE more Manson movies in the works, it seems: http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2011/04/duelling_charles_manson_movies.html
actually if this article is correct then there are four Manson movies in the works. Wow! I know filming has begun on one movie with Bill Moseley as Manson so since that one isn't mentioned in this article thats gotta make it four. That's a whole lotta the same thing if you ask me. Not to mention all the other Manson movies of long ago. Playwrights must be running out of ideas. :shrug2:
let's not forget why we are wandering around in this neck of the Internet - as this apparently untalented director says in the first link, the TLB case brought safe America into the Fear. Whether or not that is Tex watson's fault, or CM's - or just a confused nation's need for a hippie boogeyman - it's powerful stuff. this one looks atrocious.
Well they re-did Footloose so yeah, they're running out of ideas. Though that has always been Hollywood, Red Dust becomes Mogambo. The Seven Samurai becomes The Magnificent Seven. And on it goes. . .
There seems to be a couple more, too, unless one of the ones previously mentioned has had a name change. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1671471/fullcredits#cast An animated short with Marlin Marynick and Charles Manson's voices- http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2088849/
