Alas, I was being facetious in part for I have worked in marketing but in effect this was a poor job of it.
Took a whole 8 credit workshop is Psychology of Marketing..didn't really care for it...it is more a hit or miss game than any time of logic behind alot of it.. Either people like something or they don't. Intitally you may be drawn to it, get it, and then say yuck and never go back again... But as the economy now dictates, it doesnt matter how well you market something-if people have money and want it they get it, if not then due to economic factors one just gets what one needs.
Yeah...I've been trying to market some rare vinyl and first edition books and have had resposes from people 'why didn't you offer this to us 2 years ago'... Well, duh...I wasn't was broke two years ago.

HS was partof the story in TLB. It wasn't the only story. As I have said elsewhere, only an intersection of multiple motives really fits. One motive for the murders and for all of the murderers doesn't work. Unless there is a motive that simply hasn't been revealed yet. HS doesn't work for Charlie because he dumped it as soon as he was arrested. If he believed it he should have been still spouting it like Hitler did in his last will and testiment re the Jews. I really think that all of the murderers, except Charlie, on some level bought into some of the HS BS. But I think the girls were motivated by a desire to spring Bobby B. with some copy cat crimes to the Hinman f-up (which was all about getting money for the Family IMO). Just think, if Bobby had been smart and hadn't been caught with the murder weapon, in Hinman's car and in bloody clothes all the rest might not have happened and we all might never have heard of Charlie. Tex and the rest of the core guys were motivated by $$$ and drug issues. We just don't have the info to go beyond that. Tate with the Voytek MDA stuff is probably on the right trail. LaBianca probably had more to do with the daughter's relationship with the motorcycle gangs who in turn had a relationship with The Family. That said, while all the actors were doing the crimes for their own purposes I think that in the background the whole HS scenario that Charlie instilled for his own control purposes was running in a loop in their heads. The HS related stuff that we see in the murders is just their reality leaking out as they go about their lives. If you think a crazy, violent thing is going to happen (HS) and then a crazy violent thing happens in your life (TLB) I think its logical that you assume they are one and the same. My .02
Commie - no matter what a horrible mood he's in the Colonel has friends - he's a trip and he's unique and in todays packaged world that is something to celebrate. It's like Pulp Fiction - I never knew what was going to happen next - truly an example of shock surprise and eccentricity. I never know what the Colonel is going to be up to - the fun of the Colonel is you never anticpate his reaction. I read his blog but would be terrified to post - at least on here I can hide behind Cat's claws - LOL I don't believe Helter Skelter either - oh I do believe that Charlie was obsessed with the White Album but that's a far cry from a solid motive. I think his preaching on Helter Skelter was more to scare the kids to stay with him - he made them feel like that IF THERE WAS A REVOLUTION that he could save them. It's the same usual apocalyptic manipulation by megalomaniacs - he might have had a few of the kids convinced but those were dimwits like Clem and Brooks Poston anyway - There is more to it - Helter Skelter was the way to an end. So be it - but I'd like to know the real motives in order of priority and HS was at the bottom.

Helter Skelter as a philosophy is put together and made up by the Bug because he felt he needed to show a motive although legally he didn't have to. Many details came from Watkins who was trying to take everything over. The original prosecutor who I have interviewed, Stovitz, stated that it was a crock. No one ever saw these murders pre arrest as a race crime so either the killers were very inept or the cops were OR it wasn't the case. HS is a fiction that took many elements of Manson's rap along with Paul's lies and Bug's psychosis (this was a guy convinced the milkman was the father of his son). [/quote] Not quite...if I'm understanding the Col. correctly he does not believe HS was even part of the fabric of life at the Ranchs in mid- to late 1969. I, and it seems Courtney, would disagree. What we all do apparently agree on is that HS was not really a motive for the murders, that it didn't set events in motion. IMO - the HS rap may have greased the skids for some of the murderers, nothing more.
Okay while it was not a motivator for the crimes, what if not HS is Katie speaking of in this letter as "coming down"?
