I would get out of bed hearing water running, I'd want to know if a pipe had burst. As for getting up at 4am, alot of people arrive at 6am so 4 wouldn't seem to early for coffee, breakfast and off to work. Then you have "nightowls" ( I am one) who don't go to bed until 4 or 5 in the am. We usually work nights. I no longer live in or even near a large city but I can tell you...the city never sleeps. Someone is always up and about.

Three reasons for not killing the Webers:

    1) The tape recorder in Tex's head was probably a standard cassette model and did not have auto-rewind capability after the tape reached the end. My exhaustive research informs me that a standard cassette circa 1969 would have had two 30 minute sides, and only Charlie himself could have flipped the tape over to the other side after one side had played completely.

    2) Weber is a German name, and the master race was exempt from the tribulations of the end times.

    3) (Seriously now, Drum roll please). Our Gang was in GTFO mode. They just murdered a bunch of people and got away with it. They weren't going to take a chance on getting caught at this point.

Or simplier yet, they already ditched the weapons and clothes over the hillside etc.

Or.....the minions of Manson equated older folk's age with irrelevancy......

It's hard to believe someone with the blood lust of Atkins, Watson, and Krenwinkel would pass up an easy kill......the Webers were very lucky that morning.

...Or, there were no "random" killings. All this about driving around and looking for other victims was meant to mislead. They killed at the two houses they were sent to kill at.
  7. Bottledbrunette09 Well-Known Member

Good point, Birds. I've noticed that none of the police officials nor the prosecutors/defense attorneys didn't ask that very question, either. If the murders were random, then why just the two assigned houses? Is it one of those questions that just seem to ellude everyone?

The random thing prolly just got pushed to create prejudice against the killers, and also to allow whatever secrets the rich and famous wanted to keep as such... secret.
Lets not forget CM was a member of the criminal fraternity, and was likely beholden to other criminals on certain counts. Someone knows who CM made that ph call to before beelining to the LB's and I think his name would be Vincent... but he aint telling.

I think Tex and company didn't kill the Webers because they didn't have a reason to kill them. It was dark, they had changed clothes and any blood on their hands and faces should have been washed off by the water, they didn't have any weapons and Charlie didn't tell them to kill anyone except the people living along Cielo Drive and specifically 10050 Cielo Drive and they were probably exhausted by then so the last thing they wanted to do was kill more people... Hi Jean!

I've actually sworn off this thread, but I'm going to jump back in here for a quick post.

Actually, Watson alleges Manson told him they needed $600 to bail out Brunner (And not Good, interestingly enough. Was Manson trying to show Beausoleil good faith, by getting Brunner away from possible questioning that might reveal details about Hinman's murder?).

From Watson's book, Will You Lie Die for Me? -

"Then somehow Charlie was back with me again, whispering in my ear that we needed money to get Mary out of jail and that 'if you don't get enough money at the Melcher house, then go on to the house next door and then the house after that until you get six hundred dollars.'"

This presents another of those wee problems with the official story of the murders. Was Watson a bad zombie, who neglected to follow Manson's orders by returning to Spahn without the $600? Or did they actually take more money out of Cielo than they claimed?

When the only sources for the vents at Cielo Drive are such inveterate liars, how are we meant to believe anything we've heard come from their mouths? In 1970, Kasabian said she was in a state of shock after Parent was shot. Now, she can clearly remember being inside Parent's car, checking his pockets?

The first liar never stands a chance.

    Laughing, we always come back.

Problem too- there was money in the car with Parent. Exactly where, I would have to look.

    Hi Mike!

Yeah I had forgotten that story about the bail money... if it was for Mary to be released what about Sandra Good? They were arrested at the same time - $600 seems like a huge amount of bail money for both Good and Brunner for stolen credit card charges but maybe Dil can speak to that and has anyone ever noticed that Sandra Good was 8 months pregant at the time of the murders as Ivan was born in September 1969... that really chills me to the bone... Basically I think that story's full of bunk.

I also think Linda's story that she went into the car and took the money from Steven Parent is bunk also. I think her memory and Tex's for that matter would be much more accurate in December 1969 and shortly thereafter rather than in 1978/1979 when Tex's book came out and in 2009 40 years after the murders...

How did you arrive at the conclusion that the story was bunk?

Thank you both for coming back. . . . .
I think it is in the SP autopsy report or the police report in the SP board. $ 9.00 in his wallet. If LK went through the wallet as she now claims why did she leave the money there? Why did they leave any of the money in the house? Why take Gibby's money and no one else's? :shrug2: The more I learn, the more questions I have........

    Hi Joe

I don't have anything concrete to show that it is not full of crap but these guys have told so many stories over the years it just seems implausible to me. Abigail gave them $75 and there was more money lying around the house which they didn't take. There was expensive electronic equipment in the house that they could have pawned - Jay had an expensive watch on (I believe someone said it was a Cartier watch) and had they asked any of the victims for money I am sure one of them would have given the money gladly to save their life and the lives of their friends. Also there are stories where Squeaky was responsible for the money in the family and she had stacks of bills hidden in George Spahn's house so they could have come up with the money I think.

The common denominator for the 3 crimes before LaBianca seems to be drugs. The shooting and rip-off of Bernard Crowe was over drugs, Hinman's murder was possibly over bad LSD (again they said it was over money but that was probably a more relatable excuse given the times than a drug killing) and Voytek was trying to set up a MDA clientele and Jay Sebring if not a specific dealer certainly helped out his friends with coke at his salon.

What do you think? As I said before I think some of the victims were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Argh, this topic is like a blinkin' train wreck. I don't even want to look at it and the next thing you know, I'm posting to it. Again.

Here's my take on it. No proof, for those demanding it, just my personal opinion and likely worth exactly what you were charged to read it.

Good had not been present for Hinman's murder, whereas Brunner had. I think Manson knew if Beausoleil started yapping, it wasn't going to be long until the LASO showed up at Spahn's. And Manson has done nothing, if not demonstrate his belief in a code of silence. I think he knew the girls weren't going to be nearly as strong and would likely sing like birds as soon as the first sign of pressure was applied. If the police could get Brunner talking, they had a chance of learning more about Hinman. The more they learned about Hinman, the deeper Beausoleil was going to be in it. And if Beausoleil decided he could sing as loudly as the girls, then Manson was going to be in it with him.

I think, in his own twisted way, Manson may have been trying to give Beausoleil a show of solidarity, by getting Brunner as far away from potential police interviews as quickly as possible.

Again, it's nothing more than my personal opinion. I think we all need to be reminded that most of these discussions are going to contain big chunks of opinion and not much else. We can quickly go through the known 'facts' (maybe the phrase, 'previously released information', is more accurate?) of the case and then be done with things. If the forum is to continue, we have the choice of rehashing everything we've already read dozens of times in the last 40 years, or we can start to share our own alternative theories and ideas. Perhaps we could just lock down the forum and provide this link to everyone? - http://www.amazon.co...94593698&sr=1-1

Yes, Mike I can see your logic and it makes sense. Wouldn't it be wild if the TLB murders were simply a runoff from the Hinman murder?
  19. joe25 Donating Members

Along this line of thinking, the plan worked since Mary B. didn't spill the beans. The info. leakages came from Kitty L.

Another point I'd like to reiterate.......the defense team (of Atkins, et. al) decided not to cross-examine Mr. or Mrs. Weber about the time, sequence of events, and verbal exchanges, etc. Since the Webers were not cross-examined, the prosecuting team 'scored another one', without much resistance.

Wasn't Atkins with Kitty at the big spill in Inyo? (I think it was Inyo at least but someone correct me if I am wrong)
