I think Abigail and Voytek had the kind of relationship that was best described in a song title by U2 'With or Without You', more leaning towards Abigail's POV. I know there is the therapist that said she was about to leave him, but according to some friends, they hadn't been getting along for many months since arriving in California, however they were still planning on moving back to their own house nearby. To put it simply, I am of the opinion that they couldn't live with each other but also couldn't live without each other. I think some folk have read too much into the fact that Voy was on the sofa and Gibby was in bed. It wasn't that late and how many other spouses nod off on the sofa? It's not unusual. In the weeks leading up to their deaths, one of Sharon's friends, Sheila Wells recalls this: "I remember an evening in July, about three weeks before the murder. I was with Sharon in the bedroom watching television. In the sitting room on the sofa lay Gibby and Frykowski. Sharon pointed at the both and said sighing: 'These people ... I do not understand this, they are always stoned. ' " It could be that the drugs were also keeping them together and while we tell our therapists some things, it's not uncommon to leave out a lot of things. Sadly we'll never know what might have become of either of them.
If the therapist was right, maybe she'd grown tired of his mooching and wanted to straighten out her life. As you said, we'll never really know what might've happened in ANY of their lives. We can only speculate. Of course, that's what makes these boards fun!!
Yes it does And I love this board already LOL I may annoy folk with my theories, but hopefully make friends at the same time. The reason I posted a quote from Sheila is because even though (weeks before they all died) Gibby and Voy were not avoiding physical affection for each other. Even if they were off their heads. (I'm British expect British slang)
I don't know, the fact that Abigail was also on MDA tends to make me think that she liked to buzz a little (nothing wrong with that) and that if she were sick of Voy she would have said no thanks in the typical woman pissed off and would you please go away tone. Being a youngster once, we all hit the party scene. After awhile it gets old. Lots of people you run into are stoned users of people and then move on to the others when done with you. Perhaps, Abigail was done with the scene with Dawson et al, but not Voy.
I think, due to the Folger family influence, many people through the years have been led to believe Abigail, as decent and hard working as she was for an heiress, was an angel but the truth is she wasn't led up a path by a big bad foreigner, she chose to join Voy in taking drugs and Roman confirmed they all got stoned together, Inez Folger said she sounded high the last time they spoke. And I don't believe it stopped with pot. With the money she had and the circles she ran in, she was on a lot more and had she not have died, I think it would have taken a lot more then will power to come off the drugs.
Dang it, I messed up my post....let's see if I can remember what I said.... I wonder if Abigail really did love him or if she was just with him because he could get the drugs, that way, her family name wouldn't be soiled. Or, was she just with him because her self-confidence was low and she thought she couldn't do any better? She had more going for her than he did. She knew how to work for a living, he seemed to be content to mooch off his friends. Maybe she was genuinely tired of the drugs and wanted to make a change. She was going to visit her mom the next day, maybe she would've stayed there and completely changed her life. I've often wished there was a time machine that could let us see what all of their lives would've been like on Aug. 9th, 1970. I'll bet we'd be surprised.
on my list of todos (I am the queen of procrastinators!) I have to scan "Blind Date" or something like that .. its by Jerzy Kosinski .. while it is fiction it is autobiographical and he seemed to think that they were the real thing.. but that Gibby was clueless as to what it was like for Voytek being broke and her having $$.. it was pretty illuminating...
There isn't a doubt in my mind that Abigail, even had she have remained with Voy, would have made something of her life. She had an urge to go the other way. When I read that she gave money to the Tom Bradley campaign, I think I ached more over the death of these people, because Abigail MIGHT have made a difference. Sharon could have become an Oscar winner Voy might have write something wonderful Jay might have seen Sebring International take off Abigail might have become the first female President

oh, the good ones. Kool. All the drugs that Moonglow mentioned are totally different the one another and are hardly able to be lumped together as '60's' drugs.
I was only jesting. But not about what drugs they used. MDA is affectionaly known as Ecstacy now I believe. Not that I am an expert.
