Gibby and Sharon's friendship

While Gibby was a few months younger than Sharon, given the former's educated background, in terms of intelligence, I'd put 10 years on top of Gibby's age compared to Sharon's. However, hearing Sharon discuss a character in a movie on a recent youtube vid I saw, I get the feeling that if she did have a ditzy side, she was probably faking it. She didn't have the balls Gibby had, a woman who, despite being richer than the whole group put together, got stuck in with the 'little people' and saw how the other half lived.
There's stories about how Sharon didn't like Voy but tolerated him because she liked Gibby. Perhaps the two, despite being polar opposites, saw a kindred spirit in the other. Both were in intense relationships with older Polish men, however, if you look at both Roman and Voy, neither of them would have been satisfied with each other's woman, for Gibby was not submissive like Sharon, and Roman likes/liked to dominate and Voy probably preferred the challenge of someone like Gibby, who I believe had more about her than Sharon projected.
Thought this woiuld make an interesting topic.

I like the way you think  :)

I agree with you about Voy liking the way Gibby challenged him and how she seemed older than Sharon. I also agree with what you said about Sharon faking her ditzy side...If she could connect with someone like Jay (who was 10 years older) then she must have been more intelligent and mature than she presented herself.

As for any friendship between Sharon and Gibby, it seems unlikely that they were very close. They may have met in passing, but once Gibby and Voy moved in Sharon was already in London. When she returned, they only lived there together a few weeks and from what I understand, Sharon spent the majority of that time with Jay.

But the girls met in '68.. that's when they all started hanging out together.

While I don't think they were best friends, considering a few have come forward to claim top spot, I don't think they were two ships that passed each other.

I think Voytek was attracted to the Folger fortune.

Is that why he wouldn't marry her?

I find that very telling. He wouldn't marry her, but he'd be better of financially had he have married her.

In an article I found on charliemanson.com (not a pro-manson site) there are a bunch of articles and in one they have a quote from Voy's mother Teofila in which she says that he had written her about Gibby and really loved her, but wouldn't marry her because she was a "rich girl". On the other hand, there are people who say he wouldn't marry her because he was simply using her until somebody better came along that would support him the way Gibby did.

I don't believe he was using her. She wasn't just funding his drug habit, she was funding her own.

I wish we could hear more about the first few months of their relationship instead of the end of it when they were fighting constantly. Even though we know we met through Jerzy Kosinski, I'd like to hear the actual story of when they met, who made the first move,  stories of her teaching him English, etc. From what I remember, he moved in with her almost instantly, didn't he?

From what I read, he did move in within a month of them meeting each other. From Voytek's friends, like Roman and others, they paint a different picture of him. Probably the same picture Gibby would have done had she survived. (If only) and I maintain that he has been really unfairly judged.

If it didn't bother Gibby paying his way, it shouldn't bother the rest of us. You could make a romance novel out of that cross country drive they did from NY to Cali. And the fact that they spoke another language to get to know each other. That blows my mind.

I have one of Jerzy's books where there's a lot of info about Voyteck, I'll look through it and see what it says.  The book is supposed to be sort of an autobiography, many people have said that this is based on Jerzy's life.  Since I really don't know that much about him, I have no idea if that's true.

As far as Sharon's "ditzy" side, there are many stories that seem to indicate that it's pretty true.  Maybe she was just naive and sweet that she came across as ditzy??  ???

Do you remember the name of the book?

It's called "Blind Date."  In all fairness, I haven't read it in a few years.  I skimmed through it the other night and kept coming across Voyteck's name.  I'll look through it again later.

Blind Date, thanks, I'll look it up.

    You're welcome. :)

    Another question.

What name does he refer to Voytek as?
  16. Peaches Member

His actual name, but I think it's spelled differently.  He refers to all of them by their actual names.  They aren't in the book from the beginning, I think the 1st mention is about halfway through, but, as I said before, I haven't read it in awhile so I'm not sure.

Thanks I just read the parts with them on Amazon. I'm so naughty!

    Nothing wrong with that!! ;D

It's a bit... how do I put this.... contrived.

Just remember, it's "based" on the truth.  ;)
