Folger family...not as heartless as many believe?

It seems to be the consensus that the Folgers were rather ashamed by Gibby's death and embarrassed of the person she was, but I searched through the book The Silicon Boys: Their Valley of Dreams via Amazon.com and the book claims the Folgers sold the mansion after Gibby was murdered because they were "haunted" by childhood memories of her. Anybody else hear anything like that? It was the first time I've read anything about how her death affected them, so I thought it was interesting.

    No I hadn't heard that.

Thank you for the link Nono.

Also, it would make good sense that they kept Abby's photos out of the press etc. Why make it easy for kidnappers and such to ID a child?

Bottom pic but one, on the right. It's marked with a text below the photo!

But why is it captioned with Abigail's name? She died 40 years ago ...

Fair enough. But why is the photo on that other web page called the Abigail Folger House?

    Just wrong, or some connection?

    Anyone know?

I am wondering if that house is in Mass.  where the Folgers came into the country in the first place.

From looking at that pic of James Folger II I think that Abigail and Elizabeth must have looked like their father's side of the family.

Its pretty sad, really, when you sit and think about how, even in death, the Folgers, if this is true, that they were still ashamed of her.  Most of the times, when family members don't agree with the living habits of a relative, and that person dies, suddenly, all is forgiven.  From all the dealings I've had either directly or indirectly, rich people are self righteous, better than thou types.  AND we must remember, this was still in the 60's and I believe that person who is now a persona non-gratis said that Abigail must of shocked the folks with her dating an unemployed Polish guy with no prospects whatsoever, and that she was so happy and not stiffled anymore.  I don't know who, if any of the members are from the filthy rich, but I have been told over and over again, by the filthy rich and by people who are in the know, RICH people NEVER MARRY BENEATH THEM!!!!!!!  So can you imagine the gasps from the Peter Folger side of the family?  Don't know about Inez, however.  I guess even now, its still frowned upon, even though I'm sure a few of the rich do marry beneath them.  I think they were so rigid in their protocols and all the things that being rich include, they just couldn't abide Abigail's bucking the system.  Maybe sometime in the past, the Folger family and Abigail had a falling out.  It happens to a lot of families, rich and not rich.  Of course, we shall never know because the Folger family took great pains to erase Abigail's existence on this earth.  Anyway, just wanted to express my opinion on what I think went on within the Folger family.

[/quote]Jem, I did some googling.  The weatherhill company (mentioned in the 2nd post) is in Vermont (I checked their "contact us" link) so then I googled colonial Abigail Folger and came up with some hits.  I don't have time to look through them right now, but maybe this is where the family originated from.  Abigail might've been named after an ancestor from the colonial era? ???
