Was the acid in pill form in the 60's stronger than the blotter type.

Was it the original Sandoz stuff later made by Owsley that was the real deal then every one with a chemistry degree tried to synthesize the stuff?

Also, was the weed any different to now where especially over here in Europe, the stuff is the stronger Skunk around at the moment

While I no longer smoke pot, I am pretty sure that it has come a long way since the 60's. I think pretty much what they smoked back then was leafy shake that would not have any real sales value now. I remember reading a news article about a year back that claimed emergency rooms at hospitals were reporting people(mostly young kids) coming in all freaked out after smoking some of the newer hybrid stuff that is out there now. That being said,I am by no means an expert on 60's marijuana as my own era was the 80's and if anyone here who might have actual experience from the 60's would care to correct me, I would be glad to be corrected on this.
Of course there was nothing wrong with them other than extreme paranoia but if there is pot out there now that can cause you to even think you need to make a trip to the hospital,it's a lot more potent than anything I have ever smoked in the past.

Thats right, over here in Europe now the stuff on the street is the hybrid skunk which can be pretty severe with extensive use and experts are finding heavy users are having psychological problems and severe attacks of paranoia in certain cases.
you can get the weaker and milder stuff which most older pot smokers will recognise. but mainly its the more fierce stuff knocking around at the moment

my own era was really late 70's /80's so i'm going off a friend of mines information who is a counsellor in a rehab home .

Yes, but wouldn't Thai sticks from the east have been the exception not the rule? I'd say the biggest part of it was grown by the people Manson describes in the Emmons book. Groups of hippies who put out a pot garden and sold what they themselves were unable to smoke.

There really wasn't any quality homegrown in the 60's-maybe some from big sur area but not much really. I smoked my first joint in '71. I lived in So. Cal. and there was a lot of GREAT weed and hash-at least at the beach. The growing "revolution was largely brought about in No. Cal in the mid-late 70's when some folks brought back actual pot SEEDS from Afghanistan, instead of just hash. These indica seeds, when crossed with the sativa Columbians and Acapulco Golds made it possible to get fully ripened buds before frost cut it down. The myth that says ALL the pot smoked now is far stronger than the 60's isn't necessarily true. Ladynoel mentioned Thai sticks, which could put you in a pretty good fright if you smoked a bit too much. Also the Acapulco Gold could knock your goodies in the dirt-not very comfortable to me. The fact is, most people still smoke sub-par mexican weed because it's affordable. There is more strong weed available due to home production techniques and alot of it is a genetic soup that can be uncomfortable if over imbibed-bred by punks-for punks, like the original Trainwreck-oh f**k. Europe probably always had more quality hash than weed back in the day, just due to the problem of crossing the oceans to get the weed.

    Not to mention "red bud"

Right you are Ladynoel!!! My faves were the highland Oaxacan Mexican and the Columbian red-just superlative weed!

How does one get hash? Is it grown like pot? (I am stoopid).

Thanks for the clarification on this. As with acid, most of my pot experiences came in the late 70's through the 80's and a bit into the 90's and only really included the southeasten US and West Coast.

LSD 1st showed up as a liquid. I remember reading that Mama Cass showed up with liquid LSD at a party. I also read that liquid LSD was applied to the tongue with an eye dropper. The pill, capsule or blotter are merely a later and more efficient way to disperse the drug.

liquid LSD and sugar cubes work.

Cats, hash is made from the mature/maturing pot plants themselves-specifically the resin glands that inhabit the smaller leaves and seed bracts. In India and Nepal most of the hash is called "charas" and is hand rubbed in a precise manner from the living, standing female plant, and one ends up with the blackish, gooey resin on their hands and is then rolled into "charas" or "finger hash". In Nepal it's sometimes called "temple ball hash". In the more middle eastern regions-Morocco, Lebanon, Afghanistan etc... the hash is mostly dry sieved-that entails the female plant being cut down at maturity and then beaten over and sieved through something like OO silkscreen. This lets the resin fall through and the coarser plant material stays behind. Kdimm, i didn't mean to ignore your question about the Belladonna/Datura(jimson weed/teloache)experiences. First off, they were nothing like acid. Extremely dis-associative-no empathy towards others. All in all a very self-centered trip. The hallucinations on Belladonna were like alternative entities coming from alternative realms-they really weren't there and the things that were really there became extremely distorted with edges/boundaries losing their integrity. Teloache was different yet again with what i call "the ameoba highway", literally tracks of ameoba-like creatures running along seemingly well-defined paths going about their pre-determined tasks, which mostly seemed to be benign. The background reality seemed to almost be on the shelf or something-completely unavailable to dwell in. The physical aspect of both of these drugs were very intense, manifesting in stomach cramps at the onset followed by a raised temperature-almost like i was being cooked from the inside out. Both of these gave me the WORST cases of cottonmouth i've ever experienced and on the Teloache i tried to drink a beer to calm the physical effects down a tad and it would turn to foam as soon as it hit my mouth, leaving me with a bad taste on many levels. Both of these lasted the better of two days. Just all in all no good purpose for me, no laughter-no fun-no learning. I even got wisdom from bad LSD trips i had. I hope this helps but it's somewhat difficult to describe now. Ladynoel-liquid and sugarcubes indeed!!! You sound like a woman after my own heart.

You learned something, you learned to leave that crap a lone.

Along with the hash was the ever pleasing hash oil.  Boy, I miss my college days!  >:D

Thanks Out...now I understand it...(and thanks for not making me feel like a dumb ass...I just like to know stuff)  ;D

Yuk Dill, I used to pick up that stuff in Rabat and Casablanca and it was horrible tasting - sort of like smoking hashish in Castor oil. Those
old (probably no older than I am not...sigh) sit around and smoke it in the hubbly-bubblies...

During the 60's we had some of the best pot growing in the US - it was called Gainesville Green for it's usual crystal green nugget's surrounded by a darker green fluff stuff - it also was almost seedless - what ones it had were large and white - whereas usually White seeds are not good for regrowing (I might have that in reverse).

It grew 10 feet high. The pot was developed from hybrid Colombian seeds -( Florida and UF is the home of one of the largest Hispanic populations the country - that didn't hurt) We were also an open and free port to Jamaica which is fortuitous...wink...and Jamaica is a open free port to Columbia...

(I went to Honduras with a girlfriend in college - her Father's private plane picked us up and brought us back - her family had been in the Cocaine business for generations. Legit cocaine - manufactured for pharmaceutical companies and at one time for Coca Cola.)

Sorry that was an aside - wishful old drug stinking' thinkin' huh?

Anyway - Florida was the leading exporter of marijuana to the East Coast - whereas Hawa and Mexico was the leading exporter to California dung those days. As we all know the Hawaiian is great but Mexican can be suspect at times.

Why didn't California grow their own pot?   Was the soil difficult for cultivation?

Also usually communes had their own pot growing - was pot ever grown at Spahn? Doesn't that sound familiar?  I either dreamed it or read it - didn't someone have a little 'Charlie Brown' (pun intended) plant?

The hydroponic pot that is available today (my boys were growing it in a secret room behind the stove in my house - it is a large storage area that is  under the staircase - I kept smelling pot and the stove was often askew - I finally busted them - good old Mom confiscated their enterprise - ha) is a hit and miss procedure -

For some reason pot needs to be harvested after a first frost period (November-December down here) and that climate can't be replicated.

By the way you speak OUT are you a writer for High Times?  Is their still a magazine called that?  Or a Whole Earth Catalogue?  Did both go down the tubes with 'the patriot act'..LOL

Danny had his plant he called Elmer.

There were some individuals growing a little backyard weed here and there, but generally not enough for sales to a commune. The So.Cal. climate and soils were wonderful for growing with a late frost or no frost at all at the beach-it's just that the interest in homegrown didn't reach critical mass untill the early seventies. Ther were exceptions of course, the most notable being an individual or small group in the Big Sur area that bred a strain called "Haze". A pure sativa hybrid that takes a long time to finish and doesn't yield much, but is incorporated into many of the strains available today. I believe it consists of Mexican, Columbian, Thai and South Indian Kerala-very potent but a bit racy/anxious for my tastes. And Courtney, no i don't write for High Times and the magazine still exists to this day!!!
