Awesome article as always Cat. Reading unsolved Tate murders and the "motiveless wealthy grocers" murder is pretty spooky in a way. To know they were out there heading for or already in the desert when this was published just seems ao strange 40 years after their convictions. Did they really think they would fly under the radar and not get caught? Just really creepy.
This is my first post, and I am glad to be here. I am a cold case researcher (Zodiac case extensively), and I have done some digging into this case. I mainly started looking into the case from a Zodiac angle because of a note found in Doreen's room. The note was a typed letter to her, and it was a threat from someone who claimed to be the Zodiac. I reached out to a Detective currently handling the double murder, and they are quite confident that they know who the murderers are (murderers as in two men). Although the Detective couldnt give me names, she basically told me that they were sure who the two men were. I cant seem to figure out how to copy & paste to this post, but if someone would give me instructions on how to copy & paste text to this post, I would gladly share the info the Detective gave me. That's very interesting, Morf. Did Doreen just ignore the message or did she call the police? What a scary thing to get a note like that. Are the police going to arrest the two people or are they dead? Are they trying to get evidence against them, why haven't they arrested them yet?

I have contact with a sibling of Doreen's and I stonewalled at a point and would very much like to get as much info as I can. But quickly, did it have to do with the Manson Family? My instinct says more of the Gypsy Jokers and the their associations with certain groups. Thanks and welcome.
I will email it to you. There was no mention of the Manson Family. Apparently, according to the one man involved, he was forced (under threat) to participate in the attack. Police do not believe that he was forced, but he took back his statement, and they don't have any evidence to arrest them. I think they are both alive, and pretty old. By the way, when I email you the info, the initials of the suspects are going to be included. Please do not publish the initials of the men. If it means something to you, or seems top match the initials of a Manson Family member, please share that behind closed doors. While I dont think the info given to me was "top secret", I communicate with this Detective quite often on other cases, and I dont want too much detail plastered on the net, as it may make her reluctant to share info.
Will check my email and delete the initials. Any way to see about the Jane Doe case that Bobby Beausoleil was suspected in? I got some info from someone high up in the FBI who suspected Beausoleil and questioned him on it, but after the limited exchange, the man told me that was all he could share, that the case though cold was still open and to forget his email addy. Much obliged and I will take things behind the scenes with you when it needs...or at any time you think it needs to be, hit me up.
Thanks for the welcome. Nobody has alot of info on the Zodiac letter. After the murders, Doreen's room was searched, and the letter was found. There is no evidence as to whom wrote it. It may have been a joke, or a real threat, nobody knows. One interesting thing about it was that it was typed in all caps, as was the 'confession letter' in the Cheri Jo Bates case below. Bates was quite possibly a zodiac victim. I do want to say that I am not super familiar with the Manson Family, or their murders, beyond a general knowledge. My main interest in the Manson murders, or suspected murders, is that I want to look at all possible angles. As I said before, I specifically became interested in the Gaul/Sharp case because of the Zodiac letter in her room. After talking with the Detective, I really dont think their case was zodiac related, and I personally do not think Zodiac was related to Manson family. But there are those that do. Howard Davis, who I am sure many of you are familiar with, thinks there was. I think he believes that Bruce Davis was Zodiac. I personally do not see it, but he has alot of great info at his site at www.thezodiacmansonconnection.com
