This excerpt is from a book I just finished reading simply titled "Nine Inch Nails" by Martin Huxley. For those of you who don't know, Trent Reznor - singer of 'Nine inch Nails' - was the last tenant to live at the Tate house. He actually built an in-house recording studio, and recorded the critically acclaimed album 'The Downward Spiral' there. The thought of recording/mixing a studio length album in the room where Sharon died is equally creepy and amazing. I don't know, I find it interesting. It begins at the bottom of page 97. Happy reading!!

Below is the music video for a song from the album titled "Gave Up". If you pay close attention, you will notice that the room the band is playing/recording in is the famous Tate living room, where Sharon's body was found.

Interesting. Still very hard for me to believe he didn't know he was renting the Tate-Polanksi house. And no I can't imagine staying there, let alone recording an album there, although I find it interesting that he felt not an "evil vibe" there but a sad one. The evil that occurred there was brought in from the outside - everyone agrees that Sharon was the heart and soul of gentleness...

    Thanks for posting, vortex.

It's funny, my fiance's brother used to live in the same neighborhood as Trent's new studio in New Orleans on Jena and Magazine. When we visited him, we frequented a coffee shop just a few doors down from the studio. Little did we know that, nor the fact that the tate door is the front door of the new studio. I must have walked by the place ten times, oblivious. I really wish I had seen that!

Thanks..great post.. and im in total agreement that im sure Trent knew the history about the house before he rented it.The Downward Spiral is a great album and very powerful. Its probably not for everyone but i still listen to it alot.

I agree, he must have known. His good friend was Marilyn MANSON for crying out loud. I don't know why he would lie about it, did he actually say "I had no idea what happened in this house prior to moving in"? From the youtube video, it looks like they are using it soley for recording purposes, I couldn't have slept there! It would have big time given me the heeby jeebies.

Id have loved to have stayed there..hate the fact il never get the chance to ever see the original house. The fact that Trent and Marilyn Manson moved into probably one of the most infamous houses in America and were unaware of its history is quite frankly stupid. As the cielo drive walkthrough video shows they know about the history as im sure the people videoing it talk about "this happened here and this room seems different to pictures ive seen before"..they knew.

If you google around, there are interviews with Marilyn where he talks about his time at the house. I can't think of any reason why Trent would have lied about knowing the history of the house. Therefore, I almost have to believe he didn't know. And besides, who cares wether he knew or not? I'm more interested in the acoustics of the place and the recording techniques. Trent produced a very good album there, which I don't believe he could have done, had his intentions for moving into the place been personal manson interest.
I'm still kicking myself for not getting out to Barker Ranch before it burned down - I came close. I have been out to the Spahn Ranch a few times. Highly recommend it.

Just came across this picture (Tate living room as Trent's recording studio/notice the fireplace in the background) :

Thought I'd post it here. Seemed relevant. Hope everyone is well. Half way through "Coming Down Fast". Really liking it. Take care

Cool, man, thanks!! I've always wanted to see other pictures of the home than what's out there. Thanks for sharing.

I don't believe for one minute that Trent didn't know about the history of the house. The real estate agent or whoever rented it to them has to disclose someone was murdered there, and everyone knows. Just like I didn't believe that guy, David Oman, the current next door neighbor, when he told the Paranormal guys that he didn't know the Tate House was nextdoor, and when you see him in an interview about his movie, he said he always knew. Why, indeed, do people continue to lie about not knowing the history of the house when they really do? Don't get it.
