and the family branches out into modeling to help make ends meet! here, the girls help Sears advertise their new 1969 line of togas! ;D
The woman in the middle is Susan Atkins and it was taken at the point when Brunner, Atkins and Share were all housed at the one prison together I do believe. Susan discussed that time in "Child of Satan" and I need to finish posting that book.

I find it interesting that the prison system would allow these three to associate with one another in prison. Also, how is that they were able to dress like that? Is it just that things were a bit more "relaxed" in those days???
I'm not sure what the rules are about clothing but imagine that pre-sentence they were allowed to wear what they liked and chose white that day. Mary's skirt is shorter than I imagine the judge would have liked. THere are pics of the three TLB girls in their own clothes (see below) and also in uniform (plenty of those so won't post), and I imagine they will correspond to different stages of pre-trial, trial and appeal. Perhaps one of our resident lawyers can explain more? In their own clothes, date unknown and again .. What you will also notice is that they have not yet shaved their hair and they haven't X'ed their foreheads. Jem
When I look at those pictures, of the three happy, carefree, smiling faces and how from appearances, everything is hunky dory. I didn't realize until I read some excerpts from SA's book how the others wouldn't talk to her and shunned her. They only hung around her because they were all three being tried together. There was a discussion on how photos hide true feelings and what's going on behind the fake smiles, and if we are to believe SA's story, all is not what it seems behind the smiles. That in itself is an interesting topic.
Does anyone know where this photo was taken? Also, who is the woman in the middle?
Just found a link on this site (it took me a while to find it!) at http://truthontatelabianca.com/index.php?topic=4306.msg36901#msg36901. In it, forum member Flora says that it is "from '73 after Gypsy and Mary were convicted for Hawthorne/Covina". Jem
Shakespeare, actually - I'm trying to coax Courtney back. Whats in a name? that which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet; So Romeo would, were he not Romeo calld, Retain that dear perfection which he owes William Shakespeare (15641616). Romeo and Juliet, Act II. Scene II. Lines 47-59 (Oxford Edition) Only I wasn't talking about Romeo, or Juliet > Jem
Oh god, you meant Shakespeare and I thought Gertrude. Well, at least they're both writers of English literature so there's something in common, other then the use of the word 'rose'. ps, who's Courtney?
