Found this surfing the net on some other subject...it is posted that it is a possible book cover. Anyone hear of this?
No, I have not, but, hating to sound mean, can't see that it would be a best seller. Like most, she lived an ordinary life that rich people lived. The country clubs, debutante balls, school. Nothing really exciting. How interesting could it be? Like the cover though. Now if they had lots and lots of DIFFERENT pictures of her other than the 3 that we are all familiar with, I'd buy it just for the photos. I'm still trying to figure out if she was pretty or not. Speaking of Abigail, I was watching something on the 60's and they were showing flim clips from an outdoor concert, and I COULD OF SWORN that I saw Abigail Folger in it, wearing the same scarf and coat that she was wearing in the picture that they had of her and Voytek. I haven't seen it since, nor do I remember where I saw it on. It might of been VHS Behind the Music, which I used to watch a lot, or it could of been on something else. But it looked like her, black hair, same scarf and same coat.
Cats, I found the pic and it just says that it's a book cover concept. So, maybe someone was/is thinking about writing a book about her. Here's the link: www.myspace.com/rememberinggibby
Hey Blondie - (once you get a nickname it's hard for me to lose it - I guess that's a Southern 'thang' oir God forbid a CM habit) Anyway that very well could have been Gibby Folger - she was robbed at a concert - let me check my notes and I'll find out the source. '
Hey Blondie - (once you get a nickname it's hard for me to lose it - I guess that's a Southern 'thang' oir God forbid a CM habit) Anyway that very well could have been Gibby Folger - she was robbed at a concert - let me check my notes and I'll find out the source. '
Boy, am I glad someone other than me saw that, Courtney. No one seems to have seen it, because I've never seen anyone mention it ever. Glad to see that I'm not going crazy after all. She was robbed? Do you think Voytek went with her and that picture of them in HS was taken there a the concert or perhaps at Cielo? I'd like to think the trees look the trees at Cielo. When I read HS, and saw that picture, I always assumed it was taken in SF, where she was from-don't know where I got that idea, other than I was a teenager at the time I read it, and had innocent, assuming ways about the way I interpreted things. And then when I saw that fast clip of a dark haired woman with the EXACT same coat and scarf on her head, I was like freaking out, I finally got to see a live Abigail, or WAS IT? My conclusion is that it was, and now, thank you, Courtney, you answered my nagging question of whether it was her or not. Thanks. Blondie
As you know I've been in the throes of writing a book (and reinventing myself yet again as a famous author - that's for you Jem :-*) I was thinking about using Gibby as the main character, however as I scour the internet and 'brick and mortar' books there is not enough information to even do one chapter unless it was entirely fiction - I called an actress friend of mine who was at Radcliffe around the same time and she had only heard that the Folger heiress was there - but Radcliffe was saturated with smart savvy heiresses back then - No recollection of Gibby - not in the cafeteria, the dorms, all the places where it was mandatory that students live and eat for at least the first leg of their stay there - seems like Gibby must have blended into the wall - Combine that with her father stopping any press coverage and we come up with nothing except - 1. She feel for an idiot gigolo who probably was responsible for getting her killed. 2. She loved her Mother. 3. She was so unassuming that she lived well below her means. 4. She liked to work even though she didn't have to 5. She had fallen into a drug addiction and she couldn't untangle herself from both the drugs or the man who was was using her money to get more and more for her (and for himself) 6. She was well liked by those who did break open her 'shell' and got to know her. 7. She spoke French 8. She was patrician and a philanthropist 10. She bought a bicycle that fateful day 11. She had either situational or chemically based depression and was seeing a shrink often 12. She was searching for truth and for the meaning by padding the pockets of places like Esalen. Those little tidbits don't make up even a novella - Two tidbits I would like to know is about the book she was in bed reading? Anybody know what is was? And the rabbit that was above her mantle bed - a gift the Easter before? A treasured relic from childhood?
Miss Courtney, I've wondered myself what book she was reading, and wondered if anyone just happened to know. I think I asked the same question a few months ago, but no one answered. I remember seeing the picture of the bedroom with the bunny on top of the bed in HS, and never thought much about it, until I started seeing photos of Sharon posing for pictures with a stuffed bunny. I've seen some photos of her in which there is a sign or something that says, "Happy Easter". Now, whenever I see that photo, I wonder if its the bunny Sharon was holding or if it was maybe a stuffed animanl that Abigail owned. To me, it sort of looks like the one that Sharon was holding in the photo shoots. If you ever finish writing your book, I'd love to read it. Blondie
That's an interesting comment about the rabbit. Can anyone show pix side by side of Sharon holding "her" rabbit and a close-up of the one in Abigail's bedroom? From what I remember of the pic with Sharon, I don't think they're the same ones, but you never know! Courtney--your above post was very interesting and insightful! The book, now I want to know the answer to that too!!
